Slipping out (and in) the back door

A church movie night, during which a pastor shows Bergman’s Winter Light followed by a brief discussion, sends author Tobias Wolff out the back door.  In this New Yorker essay, Wolff ponders the possibility of a different outcome, if only the pastor had altered one aspect of his presentation.  What would ultimately draw him back; open “toward the possibility of faith?”
